What is the BA Speaker Series?:

The BA Speakers Series hosts PhDs that have transitioned to non-academic careers and experts that help PhDs in this process. Each day of the series we will have a speaker from a different field who will give their insights on transitioning out of academia, what it is like to work in their field of expertise and strategies for building transferable skills such as networking. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions to these experts as part of an informal discussion during this event. Details below.

Speaker Bio:

Enrique Lin-Shiao is an Associate in Asset Acquisition at BridgeBio, where he focuses on finding and evaluating novel therapies for rare diseases and cancer, as well as creating paths to move those therapies from the bench to the clinic. He completed his postdoctoral work in the laboratory of Dr. Jennifer Doudna at UC Berkeley. Enrique was born and raised in Costa Rica until he turned 18, and a scholarship from the German government allowed him to study Engineering Physics at the Technische Universität München. He then pursued research in biophysics at the University of Cambridge, followed by a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics at the University of Pennsylvania in the lab of Dr. Shelley Berger. His research has focused on immunotherapy, epigenetics and genome editing. Enrique is also the co-founder of Caminos en Ciencia, a podcast that gives voice to challenges, success stories and lessons of Latin American scientists working in academia and industry, with the goal of providing role models for underrepresented communities.
